Joe, thanks for your reply. I like to use original parts whenever possible but it sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth in this case.

Just thinking, have not experimented yet, but a replace could be as simple as cleaning it up good, painting the area not to be chromed, do the chrome and then come back with paint remover and get the paint off. If oyu have to burnish or polish the brass, at that time it will work.

It is not exactly the way some of the sophisticated badges are made, but real close.
