    undercoating removal

I am removing the undercoating from under car. How do I know what was undercoated at the factory. how much undercoating was applied to the car and where? Under the fenders is where I am most unsure of. Also the rubber splash shields by the control arms. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Re: undercoating removal

George, the factory didn,t undercoat much on the car, I think the areas were, behind each wheel well , the seat belt re-inforcement plates above the rear wheels. ( the undercoating from the factory was very thick when applied). The rubber a/arm covers didn't have any coating.

I think if you go to Patrick H.profile he has a website with many photos of his 72 bowtie car.

      Re: undercoating removal

      Hi George,
I believe that often when the seat belt reinforcement that Edward mentioned was coated a bit of the spray ended up on the side of the battery compartment and also on the side of the jack compartment. Just a little!

        George,
Why do you want to remove the orignal undercoating that came out of the factory?

          Re: undercoating removal

My car was undercoated by the dealer. I am trying to remove only what the dealer installed and have the factory undercoating remain. I am unshore if the black out installed in the fender wells is close to the same as undercoating. I dont want to remove too much and find I have done more than was necessary.

          thanks George

On my 73, the factory undercoating in the rear wheel wells went up to and including the zinc shoulder belt reinforcement plate and a few inches towards the rear. If this helps you.
