This is probably the oil that Stephen referenced:

    http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp Cams/249/1590/10002/-1?CT=999

It is for break in purposes ONLY, and, of course, must be used without any ZDDP supplement. It must be removed from the crankcase after run-in, but may be run for the first couple hundred miles.

Brad Penn (former Kendall/Amalie) sells a similar product, which I have used for run-in and subsequent 100-plus miles. Zn/P concentration is not published although ARG's tech rep says it's significantly higher than the 1300/1400 concentration found in their racing oils:

Just got off the phone with Jegs tech and Compcam tech. Acording to the tech I spoke with at Compcam and their web site, they offer an additive for break in only at $11.99 prt.#159 They offer a breakin oil 10w-30,and 15w-50 prt.#1590 and prt# 1591 @ $5.50 and $5.24 per qt.They also offer what they call Muscle car + street car oil in 10w-30 and 15w-50 prt# 1594 +1594 for 7 + dollars. In todays conversation with these folks I was told all their products have 1300 parts per million zink. I was told yesterday their oil had 2000 parts, and I doughted that then. I appologize for any confussion or misinformation on this forum. I've found that tech lines are only as good as the person your talking to that moment.
      Have a great day

These hot rod parts seller "tech lines" are about as good as going to your local fortune teller, and they promulgate a lot of myths and misinformation in order to sell their products.

We have several participants on this forum who have extensive automotive engineering experience, who have published indepth technical articles in NCRS publications and on the Web based on extensive research and hands on experience and are not trying to sell you anything.

If you want advice on vintage Corvettes or just about any other automotive subject, the best solid, unbiased, technical information is here - not some ten-buck-an-hour kid on a phone bank.

And if you blindly repeat here what they tell you, you are bound to get some pushback.

          As usual, I'm confused.

If an oil that meets all requirements right out of the bottle is easily available and very affordable, what would be gained by taking an inferior oil and spending more money modifying it in the hopes that it works?

the after market cam people had a big problem when the govt made the oil companies cut back on the Zn/P content of the oil because of the aggressive lobe design of their cams and their heavy spring pressure needed to make their cams work. if you are using a GM design cam and correct springs i can see no problem using and regular off the shelf oil. just coat the lifter bottoms and cam lobes with moly kote. make sure the carb bowls are full, prime the oil system and the timing is correct for a quick start up.
