    Battery Disconnect Switch

Please advise! Is it a good idea to use a Battery Disconnect Switch? If so, what is a good make and style? Is it necessary to alter/modify the Battery Cable when using one of these Switches?

    Regards,

I feel that it is extremely important to use a battery switch. I like the knife style switch over the screw style but both will work on C1 & C2's You do not have to modify your battery cable.

I have always used them. I prefer the knife (guillotine) style. Very sturdy. No mods necessary. The pic shows my 1974 setup. Don't be distracted by the extra wiring; that is a fused circuit for a rear Blaupunkt subwoofer.

I agree. I also use a knife style on my 65.

It's definitely a battery saver which ever style you use. Plus with a NCRS decal and a fire extinguisher you get some extra points in judging.

            Bob,

It's real handy if (heaven forbid) your car ever has an electrical fire.

The battery switch sounds like a great idea, but what good is the alarm system on the car with the battery dis-connected other than someone not being able to start it to steal the car.

Old cars with old wiring lead to unfavorable conditions that may lead to fires. It is best to have a battery disconnect then not. As far as a security alarm, it is the choice between two evils... fire/melted car or a missing car. I have had the knob type of disconnect for two years with out a problem.

I am sold on the switch, but what about your clock? do you reset it everytime you cut off the battery? or can you add something to keep the clock going?

                        Hi Lawrence,
I use a disconnect and reset the clock each time on my 71. It takes just a moment while I'm waiting for the engine to warm up.
                        Regards,
                        Alan

                          Hi Alan,
I had a clock in my 73 and when I went to set the time the gear came off the shaft that reset the time. I bought a new clock and don't want to reset no more than I need to the clocks are expensive. Thanks for the input.
