    Corvette horns

Are the 1972 Corvette horns (032) slightly different than the 1970-1971 horns (245, 246)? Does anyone have a photo of a 1972 horn?

    Scott,

I think the 72 horn (only one on the car) is the low note from the 70-71 set.
Physically they look the same - but NOT 100% sure -

I will grab a picture and post it.

Scott, Bill, the 032 horn is a completly different animal, the 245/246 horns are much smaller diameter, the 032 horn is a bigger overall.

        ahhh - interesting to know....

to bad being a bigger (032) horn did not do "didly" to make it louder
I swear it is the wimpy'est sounding horn ever!!

I had mine rebuilt and its nothing like the duel horns,I guess cheap is better GM may have save millons over the time they did this.

By the way I have a 72 that comes to my shop thats is a very early build and has the duel horns, not sure when the break date was for the change, but nothing in the judging guide about this.

'71, #4001, E14, has a single horn. I thought they went to the single horn with the '71 model year. Someone may have added the second horn to the '72 mentioned.

Somewhere along the way they changed the wire harness. My 4/14 build has only one connection availble for a horn.

Maybe the last handfull of 71 cars used the harness for 72 ???
                Just a guess...

From page 95 of the judging guide:

"For 1971 and 1972, only one horn (9000245, low note in 1971; 9000032 in 1972) was installed at the factory."

Guys, I looked at the 70-72 JM , It calls out for 71 to use only one horn, it is the smaller 245 only, and for 72 it calls out 032 horn.

The 72 in question with 2 horns, the next time I see it I will look to see if there are dates on it ,I know the horns looked to have been there many, many years.

                      Re: Corvette horns

The wireing harness for the second horn was an add on pigtail so it was easy to put on the second horn as the wireing harness probably came with the horn when bought over the counter. It was an option U05 starting in 1974. 1973's had one horn. I'm not sure what year two horns were in the front wireing harness but it was after 74.

Does anyone have a photo of a 1972 032 horn? I got what I believe to an 032 horn as it is stamped 9000-032 and then what appears to be 1E or 1F3 below the part number but the horn is larger than those on my '70.

                        Thanks,
                        Scott

Scott, I only have a heat stamped number on my 72', 129. There is a large "D" and a smaller "B" but no other part numbers. My 71',#1563, has a single horn also that appears to be a different design from the 72'. I also checked my early 70' and it has dual horns that may be smaller and are for sure a different design from the 71' and 72'. For what ever reason, they are all different from year to year. I haven't been able to post a pic. on this board but I can send you a pic. of the 72', if you still are in need. Steve

After looking at Jack's pic., I noticed my 72' terminal is at a different location, the mounting bracket is not rivited but has a large nut that can be loosened to relocate position or removed bracket and the housing is designed different. Maybe a service replacement causing the difference or at lease two different designs for 72' ?? Steve
