Wow, it sold for $11K! That sure looks like a bargain to me. But I am no expert. I wonder why it went for so little???

This is the third time it has been listed. Don't know what the deal is but it was sold previously.

Looks like a 7 day auction that was explicitly ended early, plus with many canceled bids as already mentioned. That car did not sell for $11K...no way, no how.

            Agree.

A zero feedback seller who only registered with Fleabay on April 30th of this year.

            $11,000,.......yeah, right.
The bid retractions were from savy buyers who caught on to the scam.

The bids were cancelled by the seller and not the bidders. Notice that they were all cancelled at the same time, and right before the close of the auction. Doesn't make sense to cancel the high bids and accept a much lower bid. So either the listing was not legit, or perhaps the seller didn't think the $34K was enough and was trying to cancel all the bids and ran out of time. Either way, he isn't going to let it go for $11K.

                Fleabay policy:

                Canceling bids
                • A bidder contacts you to back out of the bid.
                • You cannot verify the identity of the bidder after trying all reasonable means of contact.
                • You end your listing early.
Note: Bids cannot be reinstated after they've been canceled.

as already stated, something is wrong.....

While there are many possibilities, my guess is the car sold for a negotiated price to the $11,100 bidder. If you look the bids were not all cancelled at once, but over the course of three days. This looks to me to be an inexperienced ebayer, who doesn't know the way around. With ebays newer list a car for free policy, why not cancel all the bids and save $120 (final value on a vehicle that sells). It appears as though maybe someone made contact and offered a fair price which was accepted and seller thought they would get caught screwing ebay (heaven forbid) if they did not give them their due. Ebay policy means nothing as long as they get their money.
                  just a guess,
                  Lynn

Do you still have a commitment to pay Ebay even if you close the auction and if the auction is done for, do you stilll owe the auction if after closed, you contact the higher bider and do a sale just between you and them? What does Ebay have to do with it, You should only owe the listing fee, Right?

                      Sorry,
There should always be a reserve price for anything as valuable as a 1960 Corvette. I do not know what went wrong with this transaction. This sounds fishy!! In this day and age is hard to believe that an owner of a beautiful 1960 Corvette would not know to ask more for and put a reserve price on their car.

Maybe there was a problem with the fact that the photos are of a 1959 Corvette.

                            Call her...

Not only is the ebay ID clearly her name, a quick zabasearch shows that same Julie D and city in MA and a phone number.

When selling a car on ebay, if the car does not have a reserve and sells for ANY price, you owe ebay their due which is a minimum of $120. If you had a reserve on the vehicle (and did not hit it) you would only owe any listing fees incurred (picture pack, reserve price or other add ons). Only $1.00 for the reserve and something like $2.25 for the picture pack (I think up to 24 photos), for a total of $3.25 in this example. You can list a car with no reserve for FREE, but if it sells for any price you owe them the $120. In the ad that started this thread, the seller would have definitely owed the $120, even with canceling the other bids. The seller COULD HAVE CANCELED all the bids and ended the listing, with more than 24 hours remaining, and no bids. If there is LESS THAN 24 hours remaining, you are allowed to cancel bids, but NOT end the listing. Then you would have to monitor the listing and cancel ALL bids as they were made. If someone uses a SNIPER bidding system in the last fews seconds, you have a problem. Can be pretty confusing when you do not run an HONEST auction, and let it run its course.
