    steering box fluid

Can anyone tell me what is the correct steering box fluid? Were having different opinions on 80-90 gear fluid or grease? Note it is not power steering...
    Thanks....

The original lubricant was GM #1052084. This was a grease. GM #1052084 was discontinued quite a few years ago and replaced by GM #12377985, a multi-purpose chassis lubricant. This is what I use and recommend for most chassis lubrication except wheel bearings.

Most other GM manual steering gear boxes used a different lubricant. It was GM #1052182. This was ABOUT a 90 wt viscosity. This is the reason for the confusion relative to the correct steering gear lubricant.

If you use gear oil it will leak out almost for sure. Some greases separate more then others and I've had a small number weep oil through sealant.
There is another thread going on now about box greasing as well.

Yes, it's grease. "EP"= "Extreme Pressure"
