70 RC 15 cap and MC cap

After a review of the archives no one makes a 100% reproduction of either. No surprise there.

Who makes them the closest. There is a beautiful RC 15 on ebay for $185 that I just cannot afford at this point. Same with the correct MC cap.

How close is the De Witts RC 15 cap? How close is the Lone Star MC cap?

Bill, Dewitts is the closest you will find, all the others may purchase from the same supplier. 185. sound like alot for so little gained with the points. I would wait and if your a carlisle attender do some searching there.

Bill all Reproduction RC-15 will lose points on the judging field. It really comes down to Configuration of the cap and in some cases the finish. For Config it the letters, the indented center area, shaping around the side edges and the rivet. If the finish is not typical then the item will lose 50% of its originality points. Some are better then others but most that I have seen will lose 50%.

That on the top side if you remove the cap for a judge there will be more issues.

As far as the M/C cap goes there maybe no deduction but as in all cases is determined by the knowledge of the judges. There are some small Config and some finish issues for those caps.

Not correct.

DeWitts does not manufacture or have manufactured any radiator caps.

And, the one they sell is not the most correct, at least for RC-15s.

Both carry caps much better than the one 95% of the Corvette repo houses sell.

Plus, you can probably get it by the guys that judge 70-72 at Bloomington. I know them and they probably wouldn't catch it.

I'll bet when the cap was judged, he would have uncorked his big ol head out of the interior and made a nuisance of himself.

At a recent chapter meeting a member spoke about a problem he was having with these imported/aftermarket radiator caps. Apparently the bottom piece pop's off with ease. The lower piece from his cap, on his 67 bb, was later found in the water pump blocking most of the coolant flow causing the car to overheat!

If you were judging Interiors at Bloomington Gold I could count 10 cars you would not have the time -- at least not during judging -- and there is not much time to the rest of the day when there are ten cars to judge there.

Patrick, what is the difference in the cap from dewitts and old car stuff, they seem to look the same.rivit, plating, marking.

Totally different with respect to details.
Get one of each in your hand and it's no comparison (unless, by chance, DeWitts recently changed the source they've always used and went with OldCarStuff).
