On my 69, I have a black wire with what looks to me as a factory connector located behind the ignition shield box or near the wiper motor. I thought that it was a rouge ground wire however, putting my tester to it, it's a hot wire. Looking at my wire diagram, it pretty much looks to me that all black wires are ground so I'm pretty confused. It enters the wiring harness that goes down to the starter and also to what looks like the heater fan area. Anyone have an idea where this wire may go?

Re: C3 rouge wire
Does the black wire have a stripe on it? '69 was about the year that Chevy used all black wires with stripes for ID in the engine compartment.Bill Clupper #618- Top

There's a 16-ga. black (no stripe) ground pigtail in the starter harness that has a ring terminal at the bottom that goes under the outboard starter attaching bolt head and two connectors at the top - one for the heater blower and the other for the wiper motor. If that connector is "hot", someone may have put it on the battery cable stud instead - the ring terminal fits at either location (lousy design).- Top

Re: C3 rouge wire
John, you were so right, thanks a million. Sure enough, it was right on the battery terminal which clears up another issue. I noticed when I got the car that someone had rigged up a seperate ground for the wiper motor ground and attached it to a bolt on the intake manifold which I thought was a little goofy but I was too busy with other issues to give it much thought at the time. jim- Top
