    Thermostat housing

Which is the correct thermostat housing, 69 300 350 motor, car built in july, maybe a picture.

I am using the 1968-69 Corvette Technical information manual & judging guide, to get my engine ready for instal, however I can not find complete details on everything.

    Thanks for your help.

Ok, I found the part number, 3877660, but I have been told that some of them look diferent, (part number or markings are cast different) even though they have the same part number. Is this true?

    thanks

      Yes,

the early ones had the number on the flange and after 68 they were on the neck.

You can't miss the emboss. It's on the upper side of the neck, running lengthwise.

BTW, that's NOT a part number...it's the item's casting number. Often, a basic casting can be made into various final parts with the variance being in secondary operations (drill, tap, machine, add this/that item). In general, the finished PN does NOT appear on a given part.

There ARE minor differences between various theromstat housings with the same application. I'm not sure if we really understand these differences (when the part was cast, what mold cavity was it cast in, at what casting facility)... But, if the JG book tells you to look for a specific configuration silhouette of the part, you can probably bet that that's what most judges will go by to determine factory originality...

In this case, it's BOTH the casting number and the finished part number.
