question on repro 427 hood emblems, I broke the aligment pin off one of my originals

I broke the alignment pin of the 2 on one side.

So, are the repros you get from say paragon identical or should I look for an original 2 on ebay or something to I maintain original emblems?

if the repros are identical I'll just order new ones.

    thanks

Sucks I did that because this is the finished piece! looks tons better.

I put both sets in paint stripper (tuff stuff stripper) and got all the original black paint off then rinsed etc..put them through cardboard and put some semi black on them.

turned out great but that one missing the alignment pin will bug me until I find another original or a identical repro

also I'm missing a couple speed nuts on the backside, I looked on paragon theirs are silver looking my originals are black, where sells black ones like the originals?

Any small hardware store should be able to help. Also try a small auto repair garage that does painting. Bill

          thanks!

now I know it's GM but is a newer GM part like that exactly like the originals? or no?

if so I might just go ahead and order an entire new NOS set off ebay I see one set for 75, not too bad for NOS.

but again I have to wonder although it's GM those are parts made not that long ago looks like I wonder if theres a difference still.

              Hi Brandon
If you cannot find the black speed nuts, just 'Rattle Can" the silver ones.
Production finish was black phos, so, something like a dark gray/charcoal primer after a couple of test shots should do the trick.

Black Phos speed nuts should be plentiful, even at pair-a-gone

I'll take a look on some sites again all I was seeing was silver tho.

Ronald, you not related to a shannon lovelace are you? it's the only other person I've ever heard with that last name.

it's a he, and he is in nuclear and I know he was originally from Michigan.

The trim pieces your talking about are hard to find. Paragon use to sell gm trim pieces however one side was rough due to wear on the casting mold. They don't sell the gm pieces anymore. The trim pieces that everyone sells now are made in China and they don't fit right. I also heard the chorme doesn't last. I had pieces from Paragon however a dishonest restoration shop owner switched my gm parts for the China repo. I was able to purchase a gm set on e-bay but it wasn't cheap.

Brandon, not that I recall, those old large family reunions with all the second and third cousins stopped after all the grand parents either moved to Florida or passed and that was a long time ago.

John, don't you love those resto shops! from this thread did you get want you needed off the flee or are you still looking for the correct part?

Don't forget the sealant to go with those black speed nuts -- you wouldn't want water dripping from the emblems onto your engine would you?

                          Brandon,

I would not take the risk on purchasing this type of material on ebay. I would go directly to the maker, Trim Parts in Lebanon, Ohio. Here is what I found on a quick search: http://www.trimparts.com/Pages/Resul...1&ProductCat=4

I would replace all the numbers, too
