    1968 steering Rag Joint w/PS

I know 68 steering columns are one of a kind. I need a new rag joint for my car and most after market distributors don't list a 68 rag joint replacement. Or they list one for non-power steering.

I have PS and need a replacement rag joint. I need help with where and what part to buy. Would prefer a GM part but I know that is probably not going to happen.

    Any ideas?

Dan check Doc Rebuild catalog page 157 A 67-68 Lower Coupler & Rag 6518302 $111.75

Hopefully that will send right to the page in catalog. Paul 18046

        Dan -

If the Doc doesn't have them, Corvette Steering Service (www.corvettesteering.com) rebuilds them with the correct GM parts.

The power steering coupling and non-power steering coupling are the same. I don't know how this bit of mis-information crept into parts catalogs, but I know it did. The 1967-L1969 couplers are the same. Very late 1969-82 used a different coupler.

I didn't know that! I've always seen them broken out seperately and obviously thought they were different somehow. Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate your wealth of knowledge!

The 1967-68-and until late 1969 the basic flexible coupling was the same. It had a gear flange with a full round serration. (Late 1969 a flat was machined on the gear input shaft and the flange on the flexible coupling had a matching flat added.)

The basic hardware on the 1967-68 flexible coupling was the same as a lot of other GM flex couplings. The shoulder bolts were slightly different. These shoulder bolts had extensions on the hex head side of the bolt. These bolts were fairly common on flexible couplings used on rear steer vehicles during that time. You can see the extended head bolts in this generic flex coupling picture.

This picture would be accurate for the 67-68 flex coupling except for the capturing strap. There was no capturing strap on 1967-68 OEM flex couplings, it hadn't been invented yet.
