If the exterior color is black, the lower instrument panel is red on a car with a red interior; with any other exterior color, it's beige, per the latest '56-'57 JG.

              Re: 1957 lower dash

My 57, #4122, is (was) black exterior with red interior and red lower dash. Talked with the person who bought it from the original owner in the early 60s.

Sill looking for the red/orange lower dash color #. I have looked on the paint sites but I cannot determine the color. I may just not know how to use the site. Could use a little help on this (did not mean to jump in on your post, but I think your question has been resolved). Thanks -Dan-

Dan, & Steven, The "RED" for the black car's lower dash is 57 Venetian red. Also painted Venetian red is the metal plates on the doors. Same color as used inside the trunk & convertable top deck area, & shot on panel behind where seats are.
The white car lower dash & door metal plates would be Shorline Beige. Not sure of paint number. The trunk, top deck, & behind seats is Venetian Red same as Black car. Barry

Thanks Barry. As long as I know it is Venetian red I should be able to find the color number. I want to paint the steering column and gas tank cover. You have answered a question I've had all winter. -Dan-

IIRC there was a post a few weeks ago that described the proportion of flattener used.

                          Steven,
I remember something in the "Pocket Spec Guide" about there being 2 lower dash colors with the red interior, both on the Polo White, & on the Onyx Black cars, depending on weather it was "First Design or Second Design" production. It never explained what the dates for each was.
Onyx Black Car was: 1st Design- RED--2nd Design Beige. Polo White Car was: 1st Design-White--2nd Design Beige. I won't be back home til late this month to check further. Barry

Good memory Barry!!! I have the 53-67 Spec. Guide with me and it reads as you say. It does not give dates or VINs for the 1st and 2nd. I will keep looking. That has me wondering.

I have '57 #1286 that I bought Nov. '64 with thr red/white interior with PoloWhite exterior. I spoke with the previous owners and none had repainted the interior. It has some of the original white paint on the interior. I have not seen a '57 white with red/beige interior. Has anyone else? It seems odd that the exterior would be painted white and then front door jambs near the dash pad be masked and painted beige.

                            Thanks Barry!

                              I made a mistake..

the lower dash on #775 is white..the car was born as a white w/red interior. The white lower dash is still in the car although it was painted over in 1961.

I recognized my mistake when Barry said shoreline beige..and I remembered what shoreline beige looks like ( tan ) which was the color of the interior of my Pennant blue 54.
