Wow, Park Avenue Chevrolet. That brings back memories. The name is still around but not much more to do with GM

      Sorry for the hijack.

OK, the HI code was not used until '65MY, The Block was cast in December, 64, car built in December, '64, and the engine assy date is May of ??? Sure worth a better look, but very interesting!

So what you guys are saying is the car was built on or about Dec. 12th and the block was cast Dec. 30th. And the body was built Dec. 12th ? I geuss there must be a problem somewhere then? Any Ideas?

By the way I am driving up to look at the cat tomorrow is there anything I can do to narrow this down? Tom

Mike -- thanks for the link. The owner's name on the dealer workorder is still in Montreal, and was one of Rick Snow's (RIP) clients.

That is what I am going to do. But I do not want to make a major mistake while I am there. What would be the absolute best way to make sure this is the original engine? By the way thanks for all the help. You guy's and this board are great to have. Tom Stanton #41491

I had posted earlier that the date code was L034. I posted wrong, it is L304 Sorry but I am sure this will make a differance! Tom

                        Tom,
I would suggest taking a camera and take some good high resolution close up pictures of the trim tag and engine stampings.

If the data you provided is accurate, that car does NOT have the original engine.

As John said the car was completed on ~Dec 22, 1964. There is simply no way that an engine that was cast 8 days later, i.e. Dec 30, 1964 (casting date on block near distributor boss) and assembled May 12, 1965 (pad stamping) is original to that car.

If an original engine is a deal breaker for you, then I would ask the seller to double check and provide a clear picture of the pad stamping before I wasted a 500 mile trip. On the other hand, non-original motor (NOM) Corvettes need good homes too, assuming they are priced accordingly. Just my humble opinion.

Being that the dates are likely off on the date where? The stamp pad matches the trim tag as far as serial # goes. So where is the likely problem? Is there any quick way to figure out the problem? I am somewhat dislexic but I checked my #'s several times and it comes up the same. I really need some pointers before I get there. Thank's Tom

I don't know how serious you were about the dislexic comment....but....

Is it possible that the casting date is actually L034 (Dec 3, 1964 not Dec 30, 1964)) and the pad stamping is F1205HI (Dec 5, 1964 not May 12, 1965)? That would be perfect for a car coming off the assembly line on Dec 22, 1964. Everything would make sense if that is the case.

                                Jack

I always have reversed #s but they did not have the term dislexic when I wnt through school. IF I were 45 years younger I am sure they would hang that label on me. The owner assures me the stamp pad matches the vin# on the trim tag.He also assures me the casting # is 3782870 which is correct for a 65.I geuss the only way to know for sure is go up there and look for myself. But if I do find a casting date of 1-6 months pror to 12/22/64 the engine is original correct? What would be the chances that the car had an engine problem after being built and had another engine installed? Is that possible? Thanks for all the help. Tom
