Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
If I recall correctly, rather than holding a Regional Meet in conjunction with Corvettes@Carlisle, Chip Miller suggested the NCRS display area which would guarantee a space and an annual event incorporated into the Corvettes@Carlisle event.
However, I might stand corrected if someone else on the sitting board of directors at the time remembers differently.- Top

Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
Yeah Steve, Nothing ment by theChuck, of course you are right. I guess I am getting grumpy in my old age
. I did know about the 2011 National being in Novi but was curious as to why I have not seen a regional/national meet in Chicago. My problem is that there are no indoor chapter /regional meets within 6hrs this year and I was told that I need an award before I can show a car at a National meet. As I said before I am patient and will wait to see what develops in the future. Thanks to all for your replies.
just a smile, And your not that old to be grumpy yet

Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
Vinnie, we actually held a Regional there sometime during the mid to late '90's. To say the least, it was not an ideal situation with all the foot traffic on the judging field. If I remember correctly I was on the BOD when the proposal came up and it took more discussion that all the rest of the Regionals combinedIf I recall correctly, rather than holding a Regional Meet in conjunction with Corvettes@Carlisle, Chip Miller suggested the NCRS display area which would guarantee a space and an annual event incorporated into the Corvettes@Carlisle event.

Dick,
Yes, I'm aware of the regional...actually I think there were two regional meets held there...and after that, Chip proposed the NCRS Display...maybe Elaine Raisner could chime in and set the record straight...She was the cataylst behind the display...and yes, there was much discussion on the issue.- Top

Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
I attended those BoD meetings as Editor. The problems with putting on a Regional at Carlisle were several. Although many skilled judges were at the event, in many cases we could not get them to judge because they were tending their booths, shopping, or otherwise engaged -- so in spite of a great attendance it was difficult to field quality judges. The crowded roads made it impossible to offer Performance Verifications -- so a "full service" Regional was difficult to offer.Dick,

Additionally, Chip wanted an NCRS event every year, and it was impossible to offer a Regional there every year and still accommodate the members who live in other parts of the country.
Thus the Gallery serves the "NCRS event every year" desires, and gives NCRS a presence at the Corvettes @ Carlisle. As far as I remember there was no discussion of "commingling" events as far as the public discussion went.Terry- Top

Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
Chuck, now that you have relocated from the hinterland of far far West Texas to a more populated and centrally located (and should I say greener?) area of TX, we would like to have you as a TX Chapter member. Visit www.ncrstexas.org for a membership form.
Cheers,- Top

Where do you guys hold your chapter meetings?...I don't want to have to drive longer than about an hour. Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
I would love to see this come to fruition. I attended the Galena meet last year for the 1st time and while that is a beautiful part of the state for a road tour for late model cars, I would think they'd get more cars for judging if it were closer to Chicago.
Steve, another option for you to consider is the IN chapter meet in Aug in Valpo. It is "indoor" in a livestock building at the Valpo fairgrounds. It is not as nice as some venues but it the car would definitely be sheltered from the elements. Contact Ken Sleeper for more details on this year's event.- Top

Terry, you know me an old pot stirrer from way back. I miss that Other Show, but too many commitments. I enjoyed judging with the team we had there. But the area is nice for a regional sized meet.- Top

Re: Chicagoland National/Regional
Back in the "old days" (mid 1980s) the Illinois Chapter often judged 50+ Corvettes at our annual meet in Galena, at a different resort than currently. More cars for judging might be fun for the spectators, but for those of us judging and organizing the event it rapidly became something else -- a four letter word: work. Some prefer "the road tour for late model cars" to more cars for judging.I would love to see this come to fruition.
