The show is indoors.
You may have to park your Corvette daily driver outdoors, probably the Sportsman class too.

Yes, someone got on me 2 years ago because the Sportsman cars were outside - and all the literature said that it was an indoor show.

Just making sure that everyone knows what to expect...

Sportsman cars are usually parked outside. They are intended to be the persons meet transportation, and moving them in and out of a building is a pain, and also poses a risk to other people. So for safety and convenience, even if not reasons of available space, it makes sense to have Sportsman cars outside.

At the National in San Jose the Sportsman cars that were allowed to park inside were supposed to remain inside until the meet was over for safety reasons.

We probably have a greater risk of damage by driving our cars to the local cruize nights. Just remember Duntov said." These cars are made to be driven" spoken at the awards banquet at Seven Springs, PA. Another great outdoor event.

Ah, don't be so sensitive, Steve...Tom is probably used to driving to typical NCRS events, and that icon is a little stronger than what most posters intend.

Google maps says its 273 miles from Chicago to Novi, or 4 hours and 25 minutes. Not bad by West Texas standards where it takes five hours just to get to the next city. When I lived in El Paso, an NCRS meet was going to be no less than five hours away (Albuquerque), and for an event in Texas, 11-12 hours.

NCRS is a nationwide club that has a relatively few members that attend events; therefore, events for those that attend are spread ALL OVER the country. Expect to have to drive a few hundred miles to get a car judged.

Or...get busy and submit a proposal to have an event in your town. Given the long lead time and the likelyhood of Chicago being too expensive, I think I would just make the 4 1/2 hour drive to Novi if the car was ready to be judged.

Chuck, of course you are right. I guess I am getting grumpy in my old age. I did know about the 2011 National being in Novi but was curious as to why I have not seen a regional/national meet in Chicago. My problem is that there are no indoor chapter /regional meets within 6hrs this year and I was told that I need an award before I can show a car at a National meet. As I said before I am patient and will wait to see what develops in the future. Thanks to all for your replies.

You were told wrong -- unless you are going for Bowtie. Bowtie does require a Regional sign-off, but for National Flight Judging one needs only a Chapter Third Flight or better. Of course a Regional would also work, but Regional judging is not a requirement for National Flight Judging. However, there are few indoor Chapter meets -- one indoor Chapter meet is in West Bloomfield Michigan June 4 & 5 -- I think that is only slightly farther than Novi.

Edit add: I should point out I believe (please check because I am working from memory) the Chapter Judging requirement for National Flight Judging has to be within three Calendar years of the National Convention. The real answer (cast in stone so to speak ) is in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual.

What about St Charles? There is the Expo Center across the road from Pheasant Run that could accomodate a regional indoors and the Hilton Garden Inn is there. Just because that "other show" is there in June doesn't mean you coldn't hold a Regional there. How's that for stirring the pot?

I dunno, I might have to trailer it...

Well, as long as I"m going that far, I might as well drive it home for lunch first (250 miles) to Traverse City, so I can get the extra points for the trip from home. If I do that, do I get the whole 500 miles for the round trip?

Bob, that would be a perfect venue for a regional meet. They had the Indian uprising show there last July and it was a blast. I will mention this to Bill Bruan the next time I see him.

Terry, I wonder if NCRS would be opposed to hosting a Regional in conjunction with another indoor car event? This would reduce costs and give the NCRS added exposure which would be good for the organization.

Not sure about the rules, but in 1993-95 SO CAL Chapter hosted an annual chapter judging event with the local NCCC Clubs and called it the MONDIVI, as it was at their winery distribution center. People loved the event. NCRS Judging cars on one side of the area, NCCC judging on the other on the other. Participants could also go on wine tasting and food tours as the day wore on. Awards were on one stage around 3:00PM.

The NATIONAL NCRS almost canceled the chapter charter in that it specifically states no 'comingling' of events with other car clubs.

I believe that is why today at CARLISLE, there is no judging, just the GALLERY. God forbid if we could all save a little money, and maybe enjoy "other" Corvettes while at a meet.
