    Wiper Door Solenoid

I have a 68 and need to replace the wiper door solenoid on the back of the tach. Does anyone know of an easier way to access this part short of dropping the steering column to removing half of the dash?

Mike, I think you can reach under dash and un-hook the wire and hoses and just attach the harness and hoses to new solonoid, and tuck under the dash when done.

When I was able to stand on my head, I have replaced those solenoids and attached them back to the guage cluster. Just takes a lot of patience

          Thanks Gentlemen:
I appreciate the replies. Not as young as I used to be so standing on my head is tough - especially with all the extra lumps from the wifes cast iron skillet. hahaha

Mike if you spend to much time in the garage, you'll be needing some duct tape to.

Thanks Mr. Johnson for the reply. It is a tough place to get too and not much room to work with the original steering wheel in the way.

                Hi Mike,
I found it's easiest for a 4 year old. They can lay in the foot well, their arm is long enough to reach, and their hand is small but STONG. PLUS.... they will often work for a baggie filled with Cheerios and a ride.
Seriously, I found it worth while to take the seat out; it takes a few minutes but it's surprising how much you can do if you can lay in the foot-well. Next is the steeing wheel drop.
                Regards,
                Alan

Mike, As Alan said it is much easier if you remove the drivers seat. I have not had to change the wiper solenoid, but working on other stuff under there like the brake booster attaching nuts was much easier with the seat out.

If you think working under the dash of a C3 is difficult, try working under the dash of a C4! You'll instantly appreciate just how easy a C3 is.

Would probably not be a problem if my grandson was here versus in New England area. Cheerios would be a cheap labor charge by comparison.

Seriously, thought about taking the seat out and trying that before having to drop the steering wheel. Will definately give that a try before the other. Thanks!

I can only imagine how difficult the newer vettes are to work on with all of the electronics. Thank for the response.

my radio/casette player in my 85 was sure easier to remove than the radio on my 68 and 70. It can be done just sitting in the drivers seat.

Yes, the radio on C4's are easy to remove. That's about it, though. Try to work UNDER the dash? IMPOSSIBLE. The only way is to remove the various dash pieces including, sometimes, the upper dash panel.
