I have a 68 and need to replace the wiper door solenoid on the back of the tach. Does anyone know of an easier way to access this part short of dropping the steering column to removing half of the dash?

Re: Wiper Door Solenoid
Mike, I think you can reach under dash and un-hook the wire and hoses and just attach the harness and hoses to new solonoid, and tuck under the dash when done.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Mike if you spend to much time in the garage, you'll be needing some duct tape to.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Thanks Mr. Johnson for the reply. It is a tough place to get too and not much room to work with the original steering wheel in the way.- Top

Re: Wiper Door Solenoid
Hi Mike,
I found it's easiest for a 4 year old. They can lay in the foot well, their arm is long enough to reach, and their hand is small but STONG. PLUS.... they will often work for a baggie filled with Cheerios and a ride.
Seriously, I found it worth while to take the seat out; it takes a few minutes but it's surprising how much you can do if you can lay in the foot-well. Next is the steeing wheel drop.

Re: Wiper Door Solenoid
Mike, As Alan said it is much easier if you remove the drivers seat. I have not had to change the wiper solenoid, but working on other stuff under there like the brake booster attaching nuts was much easier with the seat out.

If you think working under the dash of a C3 is difficult, try working under the dash of a C4! You'll instantly appreciate just how easy a C3 is.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Would probably not be a problem if my grandson was here versus in New England area. Cheerios would be a cheap labor charge by comparison.
Seriously, thought about taking the seat out and trying that before having to drop the steering wheel. Will definately give that a try before the other. Thanks!- Top

Re: Wiper Door Solenoid
Yes, the radio on C4's are easy to remove. That's about it, though. Try to work UNDER the dash? IMPOSSIBLE. The only way is to remove the various dash pieces including, sometimes, the upper dash panel. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
