    Problem! Trans Speedo*Gear

    HELP!

While chasing a speedo problem it was necessary to pull the speedo adaptor out of the Transmission. The plastic gear has fallen into the tailhousing!!

My question to you is do you think it will ride in the tailhousing and be alright?

Or is it time to pull the transmission and get it out?? Of course I would have to replace the gear...

    1963 T-10 4 speed....

    Thanks, Steve

Steve, bad idea to leave in transmisson, would say buy yourself a set off mechanical fingers maybe you can fish out, or even try to make a hook out of mechanics wire. good luck.

I agree; it needs to come out of there. To me this is like leaving a freeze plug in the engine block that you just "knocked into" the water jacket. Somehow it just goes against my grain!

I don't think leaving the plastic driven gear in the tail shaft will hurt anything.

Found a roller bearing (one) laying on the bottom of my 63 transmission, been that way for 25 years. Helps move the sludge around you know!

You guys are probably right with leaving the gear in there. I just have that annoying voice in my ear that won't let me do it.

                Jeff,

Those voices......those bothersome voices....ignore this one. Although yeah the gear shouldn't be there.....the truth of the matter it is! Forget about it. Functionally should not have an effect on performance nor function of your transmission. Let it go.
