    C2 chassis VIN stamping location

    Hi,

Can someone help me locate the VIN stampings on my 64 coupe? I looked at earlier discussions and feel like the stampings were on the top of the chassis which would make it impossible to see without pulling the body. Is this correct?

    Thanks.

The frame markings on a C2 are on the kick up over the left rear wheel. Pull the left rear tire. Using a flashlight and mirror, see if you can find anything on top of the frame. It may require some cleaning first. But I think it can be done without pulling the body.

Look at my post dated March 25 2009 for an explanation of the process and a photo. You definitely do not have to remove the body . The numbers may be rusted off, but if they are still there you can see them.

            Hi Tom,

Good to know you are here.

We've seen better days here but we do hope we are on a recovery now.

I also would like to thank all for their input on the VIN location. I hope to find that number tomorrow.

            Thanks,

Here is a fiberglass impression on a paint mixing stick that I made of the VIN with the body on, next to the drivers seat and it's location dimensions below that. PT

Found the number ! I can tell you it would be impossible without the dental mirror and a good clean. It was on the drivers side kick up - as described. Once again, Thank You.

                    Cengiz,

Strong work! Did the number on the frame match the VIN?

                      PT,

Just for clarification, does your photo mean that there are two locations for the VIN on the frame, one on the top of the rail under the drivers seat (as you show), and one above the driver's side rear wheel kickup (as others show)

Or is it, that the location varies by year?

I'll have to take a look at your location on my 67. Thanks.

Jerry --- yes, two locations; the one shown above (driver seat) and the kick-up, or more correctly, moved to near the rear body mount for 1966 and '67 (and extremely late '65s).

                          Joe,

Yes it did - while I was pretty sure about my car's low mileage and that it was a numbers matching car, I must say I had a few moments before I found the number.

                            Wayne,

Do you mean two locations on the same car, or two locations for C2's depending upon the year of the car.

Just can't imagine the VIN stamped twice on the same car, on the same side within 4 feet of each other.

Jerry -- Yes to both. (2 locations; 3ft apart for '63, 64 and most '65's; another 1.5 ft back near the rear body mount on real late '65s and all '66-7).
