    70 350/300 fuel line clamps

Early Shark clamps were discussed in the archives, but there didn't seem to be much certainty. And the JG is a bit confusing to me on this issue.

Is the consensus that my base engine, May-built 70 should have four green, square-tanged spring clamps on the supply line, and four tower clamps on the return line?

Pat, my 2 centavos -- and it is not worth even that now days --
For a 1970 I would expect the smaller spring clamps (I think red) on the return line -- you will need four with the square edge. Yes the green square-edge spring clamps fo the supply line.

Foe 1971, and just maybe a very late 1970, I would expect the small tower clamps on the return line -- and the same green square-edge spring clamps fo the supply line.

Now with that opinion out there let's see what Mark and Paul and Patrick and Jim and a few others have to say. This should be interesting.

Pat, late 71 cars had the spring style clamps, 70 AND71 earlier cars had the tower clamps according to JG, I recently remember looking at Dave Stricklands 71 bowtie car (base engine) and he had the tower clamps on return line. my late 72 does have the spring style clamps.

Re: 70 350/300 fuel line clamps

Well the JG does say tower clamps for 70 fuel lines. Mine lines at the tank have never been touched and they are spring ring. I also found a spring ring clamp rattling around the fuel lines by the fuel pump (large line, Green clamp). Bubba replaced the lines and used worm gear clamps. I went and found original red and green clamps with the sharp tangs.

Does it make a difference on a 350/350 4 speed?

        Could the JG be mistaken?

Bill, does your car have a fuel pump with the return line? I beleive that the tank area did have green spring clamps on the supply line.

            Thanks Edward.

Well I decided to look again. The return line back at the fuel tank is a small tower clamp. The supply line does have the green spring ring clamps.

Anybody want to trade original red clamps for two tower clamps I have at least three of the red clamps.

Should both the supply and return lines by the fuel pump be small tower clamps. If so, I need the tower clamps but at least have the correct PCV clamps

Bill, just the return lines have tower clamps, if you so have .

I know there are some eras in the JG regaurding clamps, my 72 auto transmisson cooler hoses have the band style clamps, and the JG says tower clamps. which I believe the band style to be original.

My June 71 car has green and red clamps, no towers.
The Oct 71-dated 72 has green and red clamps.
The June 72 has green and red clamps.

                That's all I know.

Does anyone still have the small clamps available?

Were they common on midyears as well?

                  Thanks,

Re: 70 350/300 fuel line clamps

Thanks everyone. I'm most interested in the return line.

I now have red square edged spring clips on this line near the fuel pump, and worm clamps on this line at the gas tank (which I know are incorrect and got dinged for).

I was just wondering if I should put all red spring clamps, or all little tower clamps, on the return line.

Bill, according to a recent post, Dr. Rebuild may have these small tower clamps.

                    Thanks all,

                      HI Pat,

I can say with certainty that at least the return line back by the fuel tank is a tower style. Because they were likely put on before the body drop, the screw is right on top.

I am interested in the two up by the fuel pump as well. I put red clamps there but now I am not so sure.

It seems that no one is so sure.

Unless someone can give me a definite answer, I guess I'll put red spring clamps near the tank to match those I already have by the fuel pump. This will save me from changing all four clamps, and I didn't get dinged at the 08 National for the red spring clamps at the fuel pump, so even the judges must not have been so sure.

                        Thanks for the responses.

                          HI Pat,

MIne is an early June build date so we are pretty close in terms of build date.

I am waiting as well. Hope u don't mind that I jumped in your thread.

Since my untouched Jan. 1970, L-46, 4-speed, has fuel tank off, I looked, all 4 spring clamps at tank are red, 2 sizes of course and the supply line has a red support (bracket) clamp as well, no tower clamps used. Steve
