58 Disc Brakes

My 58 needs a handful of items changed to make it I hope top flight potential, date code all glass, check springs, correct horns if needed, spiral shocks if needed or found, it has disc brakes on front, should I change this or is the deduction not going to hurt a top flight if other things are ok? change back to drum brakes. the disc system could be very costly on the judging field, depending on what orignal parts are missing. there are a couple of orignal c-1 comlete front suspensions currently for sale on ebay. mike

Essentially, deductions would be based on the original drum-brake system parts that are missing as a result of the conversion. If you review the point allocations on the judging sheets, that will give you an idea of the potential deduction. Note that when a component is missing, you lose both the originality points AND all of the condition points.

Brad, call me crazy, but I'll make a SWAG and say that any repro complete brake system being offered by vendors will most likely be detected as not original from across a crowed room. Mike's suggestion of obtaining original parts (Ebay, swap meet, The Driveline, etc) is the only way to get a system that is correct for judging.
