    Re: Original Paint

I concur with others - leave it alone!
I hand polished my original paint '73, only to be told in Flight Judging that I had brought out too much of the metallic. To me, the car now looks better, but I did lose points on originality as a result.

Buy one and try it on your blue daily driver, or your truck or your wife's car.
You'll be trying it on the 72 in no time.

And no, it won't hurt the paint at all. Dave's done it, and I've done it on my 72 (as well as my truck and my 08). Actually I think I did it on my blue 71 first but since I haven't touched that car in years I can't even remember.

I have used a Porter Cable (same tool) on all the driver BC/CC cars. I haven't had the need to do the 2008 yet, but I will when needed. But modern BC/CC is a lot harder than old lacquer.

Back in the day I used nothing but Blue Corral by hand on the 1970. It has had some buffer work a couple of decades ago, but by someone with far more skill than I.

I wouldn't hesitate to use clay bar on Kevin's car, but original Warbonnet did not have a lot of gloss to it. He can always polish it later. If he polishes it now and it is too glossy, he is all in. We ought to all begin to develop the philosophy of "Do no harm."
