'62 exhaust manifolds and crossover questions

    Hi,
In the judging guide it says that all '62 300, 340, and FI cars had 2 1/2" exhaust manifolds and a crossover. Was this correct regardless if they had the standard or the optional 441 off road system?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Yes, if I remember correctly (if not someone will surely correct me) the only difference in the two is the mufflers. Off road were smaller round and sounded soooo much better!

Please let me know if you find an "off-road" exhaust option for 1962.

the 62 off road option was offered just this month here in cumberland.i dug out a set of off road GM muffler/pipe that i've had for near 40 years and installed them in the 62 i've got underway. i just assumed they were offered in 62. can i put them on my next to be restored c-1, a 56? can i get billy c to create some paperwork confirming the offreoads were optional in 62? help me , loren. regards, mikie

The 62s with a 300hp and PG tranny got the 2in manifolds.

I checked with the Commander-In-Chief, Mr. C and he assured me that by the time you're ready for judging, he will have the Engineering Change Recommendation authored by the Chief Engineer - Exhaust - and you will be listed as such Engineer. He will try to have the Patent paperwork showing you as the holder of the patent rights in the same mailing.
So Press On, Irregardless - Mr. C has your back.

                Hi Tom,
I know you've probably forgotten more about these old crocks than I'll ever learn, but my '62 300 PG has what I am quite sure are the original pitted and correctly numbered 2 1/2" manifolds. Another friend and fellow member has a very original '62 with the same 300/PG drivetrain, also the same 2 1/2" original manifolds.
I was more curious to know if the 441 off-road option changed anything other than the mufflers? Was the crossover still present with the round mufflers?
Could you get them with the 300/PG combo?

                Thanks,

                Paul

A friend and I both ordered new 340HP Vettes in 62....I ordered the off-road option, he didn't. Both had cross over pipes....Only difference was mine had Round glass pack type mufflers....His car sounded like a ***** Cat....Mine sounded like a Beast...How sweet it was.

First time i have noticed that forumn rules automatically edit some words that might seem offensive to some.

guess i should have said "his car sounded like a Kitty Cat....Mine roared like a Lion" :-)

Paul, One other minor point, the 300 HP had 2&1/2" manifolds, but did not have the crossover exhaust pipe. Just the 340HP & 360HP engines. The 300HP used the heat riser passage thru the cast iron intake manifold.
