brooch marks
I have recently been judged and was told that my brooch marks on my '63 coupe were not there. I know that the block was never decked or altered in any way. I have taken pictures of the pad and compared it with other pads, my pad looks like other NCRS cars. I lost 100% of the points here for this area. What can I do to retify this. I would like to go to other meets;but not with this problem.

Why don't you post a hi res pic of the pad. Seeing the pad is about the only way it can be evaluated. Some pads have more pronounced broach marks than others. Just depends on how worn the blade was when it cut your pad.Last edited by Donald T.; February 12, 2010, 04:18 PM.- Top

Re: brooch marks
Many judges are under the mistaken impression that all pads had pronounced broach marks when new. Not true. A broached surface can vary widely depending on sharpness of the tool, feed rate, tool pressure, tool chatter etc etc. The judging rules for engine pads takes this into account.
Post a pic as others have said.- Top

Re: brooch marks
Jon, to take a 100% deduct, I believe the team leader had to sign-off. Usually that means he takes a looks at the pad. Also, one of the judges should have had a detailed discussion with you. Possibly the 63/64 team leader.
Where and when was the car judged? How was this communicated to you?

Re: brooch marks
and, if that is what he is referring to - 38 points for no broach marks - there is nothing that can be done for that - either they are visible or they are not - need to ensure other areas of the car are up to snuffRick Aleshire

Re: brooch marks
Jon:
Rick is correct. The 38 points for Stamp Pad Surface are specifically based on the engine pad having the proper machining (broach) marks. While the machining marks clearly vary in depth and clarity, from one car to another, if there is any evidence of the marks on the pad, even obtained through the use of a "broach buster" magnifer, generally full credit is given.
