Do you buy parts you don't need?

I would some day like to own a 66. So I am always looking at the different sites, and come across parts like the distributor and block I had posted questions about previously. I have come across a door to a 67 conv. the metal is good, but at one point the door was hit and the fiberglass is cracked. The guy is asking $75.00. Is this a good price? Is my thinking wrong or does it need tweaking? Tweak away if so.

Todd, I think that lots of people buy parts that they do not have an immediate need for. What seems to happen to me is that I pass on a part then at some later point I buy a car that needs the part that I passed up If its a quality part and priced right then go for it.

I still buy parts that are rare or NOS for my 55 even tho I don't need anything for it . My 55 is %99 original used or NOS parts and a no hit body. If the parts are reasonable in price I just collect them if any parts are needed by wear or damage for my 55 , plus you cant lose money over time having any.

After I got "Corvette burn out" about 1990 I started researching and buying parts for a 1970 Camaro SS350 w/4 speed. I once owned one from 1971 to 1977 that I drove around the USA in 1974 (12,000 mile trip). After 20 years I have accumulated many NOS and many original 1970 "only" parts that would be equivalent to about 50% of a car. At that I need is a good rust free Norwood body made in June 1970. The "boss" told me that I can get a 70 Camaro body after I get rid of one of my other cars. I continue to buy parts for the 70 Camaro and just store them in my garage. After 20 years of researching and buying parts for the Camaro I consider myself an expert on the 70 Camaro SS350. I am still searching for my original 70 Camaro but it's probably long gone. The only part that I have from the car is the original 2-piece 4-speed shifter ball.

I'm relatively recently into Corvettes when I got to where I could afford one but I used to be (and still am really) into much cheaper cars that I could easily buy entire parts cars for under a $1000. I'd buy them, strip off what I thought I could use later and send the mangled hulks to the crusher. I accumulated what is now a major storage problem. I've researched building storage buildings, adding on to the house, renting space etc. and darned if all options aren't more expensive than the parts are worth. Once you start hoarding parts, its hard to stop. I won't even talk about the tools I've bought and never used.

Yes, I do, although I've slowed down a lot. Currently I have more than 14,600 NOS parts and countless used parts that I've never bothered to inventory. I pretty much stopped buying used parts a LONG time ago, though.

I do buy original production pieces for my two '71's. I usually look for the very rare pieces that are unique to my applications only.

I think you will find that a '67 door differs from a '66 door.

Funny you should ask this question as I recently bought several that I do not need including another wonderbar radio??? Crazy

Now I've started to clean the garage of unnecessary clutter so I can store the "parts I don't need".

Please educate me. What is the difference? Are you talking coupe or convertible?
