Ancient Mallory (aftermarket) parts from the late 60's or early 70's. Not anything GM ever put on a CorvetteBill Clupper #618- Top

Todd------
This is not a unit ever originally installed on ANY Corvette. It's some sort of aftermarket set-up and looks to be quite old----probably dating back to the 50's, maybe early 60's.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Distributor
There is a guy selling several items, there is a block he says is from a vette, 65' 327 some of the codes on it are:
870 on top of 721, then off to the side is G29
There is also GM 3782870
H23 870 on top of 852
He has heads that are double hump 461 w 2.02 valves. There are some head bolt tabs broke.
A stripped 67 conv. is being sold for $75.00.
Is there ever a time I would buy or accept these types of parts?- Top

Re: Distributor
That Mallory unit is alot like, if not the same, as one I installed on my '57 in the 60's. Instead of rebuilding my distributor I bought the Mallory from J&G Speed Shop in New Haven, IN. It didn't work any better than my Delco so I reduilt the Delco and put it back in the '57 where it is today. As for the Mallory, I gave it to a guy with an El Camino in exchange for him moving me with his El Camino.

Re: Distributor
That Mallory setup would be of enormous value to someone building a vintage racecar. Looks to be from late fifties/early sixties when dual points were in vogue. One poster claims that it's for a Mopar RB big block, but I have not been able to verify. There is a guy selling several items, there is a block he says is from a vette, 65' 327 some of the codes on it are:

There are lots of places to go to investigate further. I just Googled "Mallory YC465HP" and came up with this............among others:

Aha........................here is the answer:
"YC-465-HP is for small & big block Corvette w/ tach drive. This a mechanical advance dual point 'double-life' distributor. Fairly rare."- Top

Re: Distributor
Back in the late 50's, it used to be that having a "Mallory Ignition" had the same connotation as having a blower does today; "I got dual carbs, dual exhausts and Mallory Ignition. Don't mess with me!"
Think I still have a coil out in the garage that looks llike the one in the photo, only it's called a "Magspark". I had that sucker hanging off the firewall of my 63 for many years. Looked impressive.

Remember Kong-Jackson and W&H "Du-Coil" distributors for flatheads?

Re: Distributor
We are telling our age Hinckster, but I had a Kong-Jackson ignition on my '40, along with an Isky 400 JR cam, Edmunds wide spaced intake with 2 97's, and Weiand heads. If we had that 50 years ago, we were thought of as Gods. However, the cost of transmissions and axle keys was astronomical

Re: Distributor
I'm a little surprised that no one remembers the old Mallory distributor with two sets of points and a four lobe point cam.- Top

Re: Distributor
I considered buying one of those because my single point was always breaking up. ...also looked at the D & H Ducoil.
I finally bought the TI out off the "12 mile L-88", and by the time it crapped out the second time I had figured out how to make the OE single point work to 7000 revs.
It only took me 12 years!

Re: Distributor
The dual system was an interesting concept. One set of points fired four cyl's and the other set of points fired the other four cyl's. That was supposed to eliminate the issue of point bounce and increase coil saturation time.
Yunick once built a large distributor that had eight sets of points, one system for each cyl. It sure looked weird!- Top

Re: Distributor
I had a W & H Ducoil back in the late 50's as well. I didn't notice any improvement over the regular dual point Corvette unit, but it looked impressive. I think I picked it up for about $40. with coils and SUN 4-cyl. tach sender. Sold it for about $100. to a friend who raced a Chevy powered Duece and liked to show it as well. That's about all it was good for - maroon cap, two coils, aluminum housing and lots of pretty wires.
