Re: How does this Air Filter look?
In a "nutshell", it's closer than the current GM/Delco version of the AC 212CW to the original configuration. However, among other more minor nuance differences, the filter element is easily discerned as non-original. The original used a much more "yellowish" oil-wetted, paper element. I believe the oil used is what gave them the yellowish appearance. Modern filter elements, like the one use for this filter assembly, do not use oil-wetted material and are, thus, much "whiter".
All-in-all, though, I think this filter would be a good buy. It's not too expensive and it's closer to the originals than you can get in a current SERVICE filter. FAR, FAR better than paying BIG $$$$$ for an original element.
By the way, it might be possible to "re-color" the filter material element by spraying on a filter oil. I've never done this and, certainly, it won't make the filter 100% correct, but it might make it "closer".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

It's a lot cheaper than the A212CW they sell at several vendors for $60+ with the silk screened instructions.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Looks a lot like the available reproductions, color, wire size and other minor deficiencies will cost a point or two.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: How does this Air Filter look?
Outer support mesh looks OK and others have commented on the whiteness of the filter paper, BUT original 65, 66, and 67 AC A212CW air filters did not have "BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE........." in white lettering on the black Plastisol. Pete- Top

Re: How does this Air Filter look?
I am aware of that. To my knowledge there is no reproduction that comes close, so what is my best choice? Should I just get a cheap AC Delco service replacement for judging or try to duplicate the look to some degree? Which would cost me the least number of points. If it is all the same I like this one better.- Top

Re: How does this Air Filter look?
You might try various solvents to remove the "BEST WAY .... " If it is a real silk screen it will be very hard, maybe impossible, to remove with a solvent, but if it is an ink stamp it should yield to a strong solvent. It might be worth a try.Terry- Top

It certainly would help decide if the repro is worth buying on the $$$$/point calculation .- Top

Re: How does this Air Filter look?
Let me try this again, since I am not going to spend a grand or so for an original one, and my goal is to lose the minimum points, what should I use, and why will it cost me the fewest points?
I do like the one in the picture for price and appearance, but will a current cheapo Chinese or wherever it is made) AC packaged service replacement cost me the least number of points for judging purposes, even though it looks even less original?- Top
