What is the easiest way to determine if the tank sticker is still intact and in place?

Re: Tank Sticker
Sometimes one can pull the rubber ring aside, or all the way out, at the fuel filler opening and looking in with a flashlight one can see if there is a sheet there. That is the "in place" part, but there is no way I know of to see if it is intact or readable without taking down the fuel tank, which entails removing the rear of the exhaust system.Terry- Top

Re: Tank Sticker
I didn't consider it at that first post, but if one had a lighted bore scope ....
One caution: If the paper is there be careful with it. They were not made of paper that was intended to last 40+ years so it will be fragile. If you find it covered in dirt or dust be careful how you try to remove that. Rubbing stands the chance of doing a lot of permanent damage. A soft brush -- see if you can get a make-up brush, but don't steal the spouse's -- can dust it off, but be careful.Terry- Top

Re: Tank Sticker
Here's what I could see.
And what it looked like when I got it off.
Fortunately, I had an order copy that was very clear. I could only make out enough on the tank sticker to confirn the LT-1 and tell it was the same a the order copy.- Top

Re: Tank Sticker
If you have long arms, you might be able to reach up behind the left rear wheel well and feel for it on top of the tank. I did this and managed to break off a tiny corner piece, so be careful. At least now I know it is there and the tank has to come out.- Top

Re: Tank Sticker
Does the dropping of the gas tank require the removal of both rear sections of the exhaust or can this be done with only one side removed and some careful maneuvering?Mike

Re: Tank Sticker
It came with the car when I bought it. I guess it was found somewhere behind the dash like Jim suggested. I've looked on the tank and behind the dash and everywhere else I could think of with other corvettes I've owned. No luck except for this one which was a very original but kind of rough car..- Top

Re: Tank Sticker
Michael,
I removed my tank last winter looking for the tank sticker. I'm not real mechanically inclined, but it was fairly easy and straightforward. Look for previous threads that have step by step instructions. The tank sticker was gone on mine except for a 1/2" triangular piece with the letters "adio" on it.
You don't need to remove the exhaust system, however you must brace the mufflers with car jacks and disconnect them from the muffler hangers in the rear so that they can be moved outboard a little bit. Once out of the way, everything comes out fairly easily. You'll also have the opportunity at that point to inspect the tank to make sure it's still good. If not, Quanta has a real nice repro tank that's not too expensive.- Top
