    Vacuum Hoses

We are currently working on installing the vacuum hoses on my 70BB restoration. I labeled most of the hoses, but missed one and am now unsure of where it goes. The hose in question comes from a tee in the yellow stripped hose coming from the middle nipple on the vacuum relay controlling the wiper door, attached to the driver side firewall. The hose is black and small diameter approx 20 in. long.

The hoses are Doc Rebuilds and his diagrams don't show this particular hose. Any feedback/pics would be appreciated. Tx

    Re: Vacuum Hoses

I think it goes to the left, and meets a T that goes both to the vacuum tank behind your left front tire as a yellow hose as well as a green hose that heads toward the front of the car.

It's in the Doc's pics, but your relay is on the firewall not the inner right fender, correct?

Now you know the value of taking several "before" pictures.

You're certainly right about pics. The hose I'm referring to is the small diameter one that comes off the yellow hose from the middle nipple on the firewall mounted vacuum relay. It also has small clamps with pointed ends like the ones used on the wiper washer hoses. Any ideas where it leads to.

Also, tx again for the CZU's.

I will take a shot. Sounds like the hose that goes into the fire wall and feeds the heater and if optioned A/C controls at the center console. Paul 18046

          Joseph,

Right about now a picture would be real handy if you have one, even of the hose as it sits.

If it's a small hose, then Paul is probably headed the right direction.

Joseph I just came from looking at my original owner 1970 coupe with factory air. My vacuum hoses are in place and original. My vacuum relay is mounted on the firewall. The small hose still has the small clamp to help secure the hose to the middle nipple. The hose is routed from the nipple to the firewall clamp towards the fender that supports other rubber hoses. From here it goes in the opposite direction and goes under the windshield wiper motor. On the passenger side of the wiper motor it continues and goes into a rubber gourment mounted in the firewall. There are two other small hoses the same size that come from the opposite direction that enter the same rubber gourment. So three hoses go into the passenger compartment through this gourment. I did not look inside to see what/where the three hoses attach to.

              Re: Vacuum Hoses

I'm getting ready to replace the vacuum hoses on my '70 LT1, as well. I'm certain that my current hoses aren't original, and I'm unsure of the correct routing. I plan to purchase the replacement hoses from Dr. Rebuild, and pictures of originally installed hoses would be extremely helpful during the installation. Can anyone provide any pictures?

Also, Dr. Rebuild sells two different hose kits, the straight kit and the molded kit. Which one is more correct for judging purposes, and does anyone know why the two different kits?

              Thanks

I posted some firewall (I know that is the wrong term, but it is the one y'all understand) pictures to a thread about that subject (firewall). VBulletin will not let me post those pictures again, so you will have to look for them.

                  Re: Vacuum Hoses

Thanks, Terry, I'll look for them. F.Y.I., I found a way around the Vbulletin restriction on posting the same picture more than once, which is something we sometimes need or want to do. If you resize the picture, even just a little, and change the name of the picture, it's like you're posting a new picture, and it will post.

                  Thanks.

I'll try that. I usually have an awful time re-sizing though -- even when I follow John Waggoner's instructions.

Terry, what I do is just open the picture with any photo editor (i.e. Microsoft Photo Editor, Microsoft Office Picture Manager, Microsoft Paint, Nero Photoshop Essentials, or whatever you have) and crop the picture a tiny bit. That will change the size of the picture and also the size of the jpg file. I then save it with a different name (i.e. firewall.jpg to firewall1.jpg) and everything works fine.

                      Thanks

What operating system are you using - XP or Vista?

                            Terry -

With XP, go to the Microsoft site, download section for XP, and search for "image resizer"; it's part of the "TweakUI" toolbox for XP. Download "image resizer", and it integrates automatically with XP.

Right-click on any photo, and you'll see "image resizer" in the drop-down box; click on it, select the size you want, click, and you're done. It creates the new image with a modified name and keeps the original image and name - takes literally seconds. MUCH simpler/faster than the procedure John posted.

With Vista, Google "VSO Resizer" and download it; it integrates with Vista and operates exactly the same way - I use it all the time. Both programs are free .

I agree, I've used this XP tool for quite a few years. Scroll down on the right side & look for "Image Resizer". After down loading this program as John said right click on any photo and the image resizer is an option.
