What your seeing is the joint between the trailing arm and spindle housing, the raised section on the trailing arm is the extra welded pad that is machined for the spindle flange to mate to. It looks like a jaged edge or crack but is not. The pads on the trailing arms are welded on and that is giveing it the jagged look. Hope that explains it for you.

Now that I look at it more closely I see what you mean. I figured that if it was a crack or anything serious some sharper eyes than mine would have picked it up before I saw it.

That's another notch in my education belt.
