    Charles, If you notice the orange overspray on the sides of your intake. Thats the area I thought the alum. paint went to touch up that overspray...

      Hi Robert,

      I think there are many interpretations of how the various overspray areas in the engine bay are configured. We have had this overspray on the intake for the past 14-15 years and have never been hit for any deducts. We did some research and in many of the Corvette books out there you can see overspray on the intake. It is fairly easy to correct in the future if you decide you want to paint it later

        There probably wouldn't have been any orange paint on the sides of a 63-67 small block aluminum intake manifold. The entire manifold and valve covers were covered during the orange paint process.

        The area of the cyl head between the intake manifold and the valve cover would be raw cast iron at this point.

        The next paint process would be the dull aluminum coating that was sprayed on this cyl head area between the valve covers and intake manifold. This process would also partially cover the manifold and valve cover. The thermostat housing and bolts were also a target.

        It would be highly unlikely that any orange paint overspray would/could have crept under the mask to coat the cyl head surface between the intake manifold and valve cover. If it did, it would have been covered with dull aluminum during that final process.

        The ends of the aluminum intake would have orange overspray on it though.

          Michael We also noticed dull aluminum paint overspray on FI nozzle blocks on orig cars & unmolested FI units for sale in the early days. I saw this on units from 57 up to 65.

            Yes, that would be correct. For FI engines, the FI unit was in place when the engine paint operations were performed. That would include the dull aluminum coating.

            Light mist of dull aluminum is often seen on the distributor also.

              Here are some original FI nozzles with the silver paint

              63 nozzle set on left; 64 nozzle set on right;
              Both had silver on front only!
