Thanks for the size and information, Chuck. My choice of words to describe the assembly line process was not accurate. Specifically, given all of the different headmarks as evidenced in print and photos here does support that more than one manufacturer supplied correct parts and that they were even mixed on the same vehicle. Either one station did one function with a set of like screws and then another station performed a separate task on the same thing with another set of screws or one station had mixture of correct screws with different headmarks to perform the whole task.
When the resupply guy picked up a box of fasteners to refill a bin, he looked ONLY for the GM part number.

If a new bulk supply from another of several suppliers for each part number fastener had just arrived, he probably grabbed the newest, nearest box on top. If the new head mark happened to be "E" in a circle, he just dumped those in on top of the previous resupply, maybe Anchor. If/when the assembly workers worked down to that "resupply interface", they could begin to grab fasteners of EITHER head mark.

It is not unusal to find all the fasteners of the same application to have one headmark on one side of the car, and another headmark on the other side of the car (there was generally a work station on each side of the assembly line with separate bins). Resupply of the bins was random; any fastener meeting the GM part number spec might be dumped into either sides' bins at any time; headmarks or manufacturer of the fastener were not a concern...only that they met the GM part number spec.

I can appreciate what you are saying. When I first bought this second 1970 and began familiarizing myself with it I discovered that the right exhaust manifold was non-AIR and the left was AIR with plugs. I thought some previous owner had replaced the right one or vice-versa. I learned through the NCRS TDB that in the early production 1970 LS-5s that installing non-AIR and AIR manifolds on the same car happened frequently.
