    1970-1972 hood support bolt headmark

What headmarking(s) were on the 1970-1972 hood support bolts? I've read posts that some had anchors, some had E, some had B. Mix and match? I know the configuration is hex head and cone shaped at the one end with a loose washer.

    Thanks,

Scott, my 72 coupe has two zinc plated anchor bolts with built on washers indexed head on the hood, the one on the fender and lower attachments are RWB black phosphate indexed head and the fender had a zinc plated square washer under that fender bolt.

Scott, I found the upper hood bracket attached by the indexed head, captive spit ring lock washer bolts. Upper had the anchor, and the other had a circled E with three lines coming out. one at the top, bottom and open end of the E. The lower attachment was the larger bolt with indexed head, flat washer over a rectangular plate that sat in the drain channel of the fender. This had the uncircled C with the lines coming out at the top, bottom, and closed side of the C. This is a Dec.-70' built 71'. Mike

Thanks, Edward and Mike. Sounds like one of those assembly line things where whatever bolts were in the bins then those were what were installed. The ones with the C on them seems to be the most used as evidenced by what is on eBay as "correct". I'm awaiting more input though. I am most particularly interested in the two bolts mounted to the support flange on the inner fender.

Now you've got it. That applies to almost all the fasteners on the car.

And so is everything else "correct" on that site.

                Scott,

The two bolts into the hood are Anchor on my 1970. The one into the drain gutter is C in a circle. There is no way on earth any judge is going to see the headmark on the other two -- nor can I.

You gotta be careful what you wish for.

FYI, the AIM, as well as my own inspections, show all 3 shown in the photo to be the same bolt (actually, screw per the AIM).

Your vacuum hoses are routed differently than mine -- not too surprising given the different years of the cars. My vacuum, and wire harnesses block those lower bolts.

Terry, my vacuum hose routing is the same as yours and Patrick's and I can't see the headmarks on my lower support flange. I also own a 1970. The Corvette in question is a 1972 so I guess the vacuum hose routing is somewhat different. I have a small, round extendable inspection mirror that I might be able to squeeze in there to see the headmarks on mine.
I do appreciate the photos and input from all.

On my car, all three screws attaching support to fender have the same head mark as the one in your gutter. The two attaching the support to the hood are zinc plated anchor like yours.

Since yours is very early 70, and mine is very late 70, I would say that for a 70, those head marks would be primo choices.

These are from 70 VIN #14803 - July 8 car. I can't clearly make out the head markings on the lower two bolts but I think they are grey phosphate Anchor head with pressed on washers. Obviously the "E" head has no plating and the two bolts on the upper end are cad or zinc plated.

I would bet my lower two were either no plating or gray based on their condition. I can try again with a mirror, but given the temperature I will probably fog it up before I see anything.
