I just purchased a set of 7" Torque Thrust wheels with F70 15" tires, I got these with redlines for a Z28, but I'm wondering if anyone has mounted wheels and tires this size on a mid year Corvette. They sure would look nice for a different look.

Check the backspacing and also see if they have the cutouts for clearance on the brake calipers.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Torque Thurst Wheels
Tim;
I bought Torque Thrusters for my '65. The centers fit the bolt pattern, but the inside of the rim dragged on the caliper. I sold them to my friend who has drum brakes - perfect. Hope I'm wrong and yours fit, since they do look cool. The backspacing wasn't the issue the inside diameter was.
Good luck,

I also have a brand new, unused set of AR Torque Thrust D's. When I bought them, I went down to Discount Tire and told them the story I had heard about the caliper interference on C2/C3 Corvettes. The manager supposedly called AR to confirm that they would fit on a 70 Corvette without problems. He reported that the manufacturer said these would work, and I ordered the set.
Now, that area of the country does not produce many rocket scientists or many priests IMO...I suspect one of two possibilities: (1) The manager couldn't get a definite answer, and decided, "What the hell, I'll sell them to him and if they don't work out, I'll fix it", or (2) AR still had the old original drawings around and machined a special set just for me. What the manager did not count on was that I wouldn't be using them for 20 years in order to discover they wouldn't work; in any event, the end result was the same for him.
Hmmm, just ruminating here, but I wonder if one could find anyone with a big lathe that would make a skim cut on the ID of the wheel to eliminate the dragging. Yeah, I know, it's insane but the odds are the casting molds were never changed...they probably just added a little meat to the center during machining to deal with problems created by racing stresses.
My gut tells me that there is a 90% chance of (1) above being correct, and only 10% of (2) being correct. I can't wait to try them on my restored chassis to see if that TexMex manager was a rocket scientist/incredible salesman or a lying priest.- Top

Re: Troque Thurst Wheels
If they don't clear try the thinnest spacer you can find. I like the lathe suggestion form Chuck. Thicker spacers may put too much force on the studs and bearings. 'Found that out the hard way 33 years ago.

Who at American Racing did you talk to? Have done a ton of business with them in the past and they have always steered me in the right direction. Which Torque Thrust wheels do you have? Do you know when they were made?

Re: Troque Thurst Wheels
I called the Torque Thrust number directly and spoke with the individual that answered the phone. The only number I see on the wheels are AR 309, they are the straight spoke type wheels. They were sold to a friend in 2007. It's not a big deal, I have a Camaro that they fit on fine.- Top
