    Question about flight judging

I have a 67 L-79 and have my original air cleaner lid and distributor sheilding. The air cleaner lid has some cracking chrome on the top but has the original stenciling on the inside cover. My original distributor sheilding is in good condition except for a broken tang that grounds the air cleaner. When I have shown my car in the past I get called for the "heavy" chrome on the air cleaner lid, and the repro comment on the distributor sheilding.
Here is the question, would the judges prefer to see the original air cleaner lid with the cracked chrome and the original distributor sheilding with the broken grounding tang or the other repro parts.
I plan to show my car at the National in Charlotte this summer.

    Thanks,

    Re: Question about flight judging

In my experience the judges told me that they wanted to see my original air cleaner lid istead of the repro. Mine did get a slight deduct bec@ause of a little sratch but they also wanted the original silk screening underneath. So I was better off

I'd prefer to see the original lid, replace the clip in the dist shield.

Yup, that's the preferred way to go.

I thought about how to go about it for a long time before I chose to have all my original pieces re-chromed and I'm glad I went that route. I had them to tape out the under side of my air cleaner lid to keep the original silk screening because you can tell paragons repro silk screening EASY from the original, it's nothing near the same.

here are mine after being redone u can see the original silk screening they taped out and it was hard to find a shop that wold tape it out, why I have no clue? Most didn't want to tape it thought they said NOPE that will be gone.

if yours has the shielding like this do know that there are plastic rivets that rivet to the top to hold a plastic sheet of sheilding on, you need to remove yourself or they will be gone when you get it back...trust me I NOW know...wish I had caught that before hand.

I did not know I could replace the clip. Honestly, I have not looked at it close but I guess I can.

              Thanks for the info.

Brandon, who did you find to rechrome the outside only? I didn't know that could be done or that anyone would. My 64 has a near perfect inside but the outside needs rechrome to be good enough not to distract from the rest when complete. I'd like to do what you did because i've been thinking about that catch-22 for years also.
