    Amp meter needle quiver

I'm preparing my 66 for PV and I have a quivering needle. intermittently while engine is running. Also when putting turn signal on there's an initial larger quiver, then a normal movement when turn signal is blinking. Any ideas to fix these issues will be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you !

I'd expect the ammeter needle to be pretty much rock solid when the car is cruising and electrical load(s) have stablized. But, it's not atypical for the needle to momentarily 'dip' when a fresh new load is introduced. The voltage regulator is electro-mechanical and has a finite response time compared to today's solid-state V-regs...

Our 63 seems to act the same way. I'll see it jittery for a while then after everything gets warm and stable it stays pretty steady.

Your Ammeter is going to need replacement before you try for PV. There is a dampening fluid (silicone) in each meter that will keep the pointer from violently dipping in either direction. After time this viscious fluid leaks out and you are left with a meter that will swing widely from "0" when the voltage regulator kicks in or out and will vibrate when you hit a bump in the road.

Several vendors offer the 63 thru 67 and later models. I just noticed the earlier meters on e-bay. Beware if the meter is coming from the West Coast. Those movements have been known to be very inaccurate.

Both sources for the meters are getting them made outside the US but the West Coast ones are really bad as the movements are not accurate reproductions of the originals.

Thanks Joe - I will check all the connections first but you're probably right - needs replacing. There was allot of past posts on the matter....
