    NCRS Battery

I was recently advised the battery cell caps were the wrong color - mine are black with the red lettering - but i was told the lettering on the caps (which includes the split circle/eye) are supposed to be black so the caps are total black not black and red - any thoughts - i have an R59 in our 67 327/350 L79 Thanks Jim

    Hi Jim,

Ours have the red half circles and the lettering is black in our 67 coupe.

If I recollect correctly, there was a prior post on this issue (accent color of battery screw caps) that shed some very interesting info! The poster listed several different accent colors (including green) and said the color variance was a Delco intentional difference to distinguish factory original batteries from service replacement units AND their effective warranty periods...

        Jim -

I'd expect to see black caps, as noted in the JG.

The R59 battery was just kicked around on the DB. Here is the picture again of that 67 14K mile bowtie car before it was a bowtie car. Vin #17XXX. Black caps with red circles. This car was supposedly driven only 2 years and parked in 1969. This is suppose to be the original assembly line battery.

Service replacement R59s came with black /yellow caps. The Delco Eye cap has yellow letters and the outline of the two words is in yellow. The other 5 caps are black with the yellow in the split ring. New batteries came without acid of course and the caps were in a plastic bag that had instructions. "To Prepare Energizer For Service"
                  1. Break vacuum seals by pushing Delco Eye into each cell.
                  2. Fill all cells to split ring with 1.265 battery grade electrolyte. Never add water when preparing a new dry energizer for service.
                  3. Recheck electrolyte level in each cell. If necessary add electrolyte to bring level to split ring.
                  4. (get this one) Place Delco Eye in second cell from positive. Insert vent caps in other cells.

Here's my 67 L79 with a new Restoration Battery. Black caps with red circles. Took a 7 point deduct on it because the lip at the top the size of the eyes on the side aren't correct.
