What type of posi unit did these use? Is it specific to the 80-82 diff or will a 65-79 work in the housing as well?

...different carrier and guts architecture - I think Dana 44, where the '63-'79 design was unique to Corvette.

That's why the equivalent of the '63-'79 3.08:1 axle became 3.07 - different tooth count on the ring and pinion, which effected the second decimal place.

Yes, the 80-82 used a Dana-44 rear gear assembly. The posi unit was a Dana unit applicable only to this assembly. It is not interchangeable with any earlier posi nor is an earlier posi interchangeable with the Dana unit.

1965-79 Corvettes used an Eaton-manufactured posi. The remainder of the unit was manufactured by Chevrolet Gear and Axle.
