Re: Bogus trim tags for sale...

There's always been a rule regarding trim tag deviation and it was strengthened in the winter of 2005. See the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, Section 4, Standard Deductions, Rule 13, Trim Tags...

The object of this ruling is to discourage owners/restorers from altering their car from how it was originally built/shipped to become how they WOULD have optioned the car if they'd bought it new. So, once the authenticity of a trim tag becomes questionable, the deduction rule works against the owner.

If you are concerned about having the car judged, you should contact Roy Sinor. This situation has happened in the past and there is a way around it without installing a repro trim tag.

So, if I understand you correctly my car can be perfect in every way except for no trim tag and I can expect only a second flight award?

First a reproduction trim tag will net you a second flight no matter what documentation you have, the tag is not assigned points leave it off the car, do not taint the history or pedigree that your other documentation might contain.

Second burden of proof always lies with the owner, on a car that has the trim tag stripped, it would be better to judge it with documentation and no tag as the documentation assuming of course it is real and sufficient can identify the correct color combination and options which the original tag might have indicated.

Precedence has been set here, we have accepted cars with no trim tag, with documentation supporting there options which would have been defined by the tag and some have received our highest awards. The owners were advised not to put reproduction trim tags on their cars but to let the documentation provide the burden of proof the original trim tag usually provided.

        Roy,

I do have the documentation that I refered to in my original thread. It is good to know that my work of restoring my car will give it an opportunity to make first flight. The info that you have provided me is greatly appreciated, not to mention saving me the money I would have spent on a replacment trim tag.
