You need to add some real good antenna's to get a strong signal , makes the radio work great any place you go . HA! Steward should love these in his country.

          Re: C1 Antenna Install?

OK guys. I agree, this is not rocket science but it has me scratching my head. I have removed the bracket that holds the bumper on the side. I have measured the location of the hole. I have inspected the fender and the hole has never been in another place. The only other thing I can come up with is that the antenna itself is to long. It measures 27 1/8 in. base to tip when fully retracted. Looking at Stewey's pictures, his mast above the fender appears slightly shorter than mine. It's hard to tell.
I guess I will call Paragon in the morning and see if they will measure others that they have in stock. If it is comvienient for someone to measure their repro antenna that is installed, that would be helpful.
I have included a couple of pictures showing I am still 2 inches from the hole. The red line in the 1st pic is a rubberband holding it in place up through teh hole. The 2nd shows the base as far down in the well area as possible.

Hey Bob is that rubber band OEM? Your antenna hole looks too far aft in comparison to my 58 or was there a change in location between 58 & 59. Do you have any friends near you who own a 59 or 60 so you can make a comparison? Perhaps your 59 was a radio delete to begin with & someone before you put the hole in the wrong place.

Bob can you bolt up the antenna and take a photo of it inside the trunk or is it to long to bolt up ? Stewy

David, The hole is in exactly the same place, 3 3/4 in from the tail light chrome, as Stewy and John. And no, the rubberband is not OEM. I have looked long and hard but they are extremely rare.

Stewy, The rubberband is as close as I can get.

Sounds like you might be on the right track then, that the antenna is the culprit & not the hole.

When I installed mine I had trouble getting the antenna in the hole as well. Have you tried every way possible to get it up in the bloody hole. I want you to try for 5 minutes to get it in. I had trouble. I might of even gentle persuaded it in. It's a very close fit try harder but don't bend it. Stewy

                        Re: C1 Antenna Install?

Problem solved!!! I talked to Paragon this morning and had them measure another 440K 56-60 antenna on the shelf. It measured 24 3/4 in. and mine is 27 1/8. It appears the manufacturer put a 61-62 mast on a 56-60 base. That is where the 2 3/8 in. difference in length shows up. Paragon has a new one on the way.
Thanks to everyone for advise and measurements. Sully

Have you got a wonderbar. If you are running a radio you will need a suppressor on the bottom of the antenna that bolts up around the bracket area. I think it's just above the bracket from memory ? Have a look at the AIM it should be in there. Stewy
