    C1 Antenna Install?

I have purchased a Paragon repro antenna for my 59 and can't figure out how to intall it. I have looked in the archives all I can find is the obvious. The mast does not retract as far as the original.
When I put the base as far aft and down into the well area of the trunk, the mast is still 2 - 3 inches forward of the hole in the top of the fender. I don't want to bend the mast. Is there a way to separate the mast from the base without destroying the antenna?
They, CC and Paragon, sell a lot of these so someone has to be getting them installed. How?........Help

Sorry Sully I have driven my every day car to work today weather is not real good I could of taken a photo of in and out for you. I have just installed a correct antenna in my Vette (cost a small fortune). I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the mast not sitting in the correct spot. Do you mean where the bracket attaches to the mast inside the trunk compartment. You can turn the black placky piece at the outside top which will change the mast position. Maybe someone will take a photo for you. I'm still a couple of days away from being able to take a photo of mine in good light. I will keep my eye on your posting and if no one posts a photo on here for you I will in a few days. Stewy

Bob, the mast needs to go into the hole 1st. If you move it around you should be able to get it in with no problem. Do not bend the mast, you will never straighten it. They are very difficult to take apart and need to be put back together out of the car.

I have tried to move it in every possible position but it just seems to long. The only thing I have not tried is removing the bumper bracket thinking I may get more wiggle room. Does this bracket need to be removed?

I have no reason to believe it has been moved. I have not specifically felt the underside of the fender but don't recall anything but smooth surface under there.
I am out of town until Sunday but will check. Can someone measure the distance from the light up to the center of their mast on a 58-60? I will check when I get back.

              Bob

Is the metal bracket that is attached to the fender well in the trunk that the base of the antenna attaches to, still in place in your vette?

Bob from the edge of the chrome trim on the tail lights to the center of the hole is 3 3/4 of an inch exactly on mine. Stewy

Stewy, Thanks for the measure. When I get home Sunday I'll measure mine before I go in the house.
David, The bracket is still there. I am thinking of taking it out to see if that may give me a little more manuvering room.

I would think REAL HARD & LONG BEFORE I took out that orig. bracket. (Unless of course you don't care about originality) It gives you a reference point as to where your antenna should go through the body IF the bracket is unmolested & in it's orig. position. The orig. hole where the antenna went thru my 57 has been filled in presumably due to a damaged hole, so I am using an under the dash wire antenna instead. On my 58 the orig. hole is still there & the orig. fender bracket is still there. Everything lines up fine. I suspect that someone has moved your hole in the wrong place, due to previous damage & a weak point. Be sure to check everything carefully before modifying the bracket.

I think the bracket we are refering to is the one that the bumper attaches to on the side of the car. That was on the car when I got it, therefore, not in the original position. Although a hassle it can come out for the wiggle room. I will look for any signs of a moved hole and will compare Stewey's measurements as soon as I get back to OKC. Sully

Antennas are not rocket science. What exactly are we talking about here. Pictures of the problem speak a thousand words. Let's hope we can remedy this in less than a 100. Post pictures of the problem!
