Re: Early 63 Warranty Book question?
Stan if you have the 1st edtion early book what is your vin# I have vin 618 and have the orange/pink part #3838412 so I am just wondering when the change on the books might have taken place. Dan states his friends vin 697 also has the same as mine. So I assume your vin must be before ours. Bob- Top

Re: Early 63 Warranty Book question?
For once I read all the nice posts. As most of you know the book is titled 1963 Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan. One would think for this protection plan to be correct for judging it would contain the owner identification. My pink color protection plan has the owners name, address, serial number of car, delivery date, key no.. This info is typed in as this portion of the top of the page would fit in an old mechanical typewriter.
Now under this there is an ink stamp: Don Allen Chev, Inc. 1774 Bway, NYC
Signed by the Dealers authorized representative.
On the next to the last page ther is a 4 cent stamp-loose just being held in by the book. 4cent stamp has nice side view of Lincoln.
The point of the above BS is that unless your book has all this info it is not correct for the car. But I imagine some nice judge would still give you credit.
Sept 11/63 my 63 had 7923 miles on it. Have proof as coupon No. 1 is missing and the note is on the stud.
When I first went to buy my 63 in August of 79 it had been sitting for almost 10 years. When I opened the glove box and saw all kinds of paper work such as this pink book and read it I was convinced I should buy the LWC.
I am sure JR and MH will appreciate this nice story. JD- Top

Re: Early 63 Warranty Book question?
On the subject of the 63 OPP booklet I have a question if I may, for anyone who may know. I have all the original paperwork for my late 63, including the OPP booklet and the Dealers Order Copy among other things. My OPP booklet has a WARNING page glued? to the front of it concerning maintenance intervals. I am including a picture of it, and was wondering if this was something that SHOULD be there??
Thanks,
LynnAttached Files- Top

Around 1963 the use of a stick on card started. They were put there by the selling dealer to highlight various warranty things. Best I can tell they were used between 1963 and 1967. I don't recall seeing them after 1967. My guess is Chevrolet made them available (for sale) to dealers who thought they were useful.- Top

So if I understand you correctly that you have 1st edition OPP for vin 3505 and I have 2nd edition OPP for vin 618 in Sept. Go figure. Bob- Top

Dave gives good information. The card, or additional sheet that sometimes comes with the warranty book, or in the folder, is NOT a GM supplied card. GM sent just the warranty book (owner protection plan) but the additional disclaimer type cards/sheets that come with, or are stapled to the GM book, are not original. We've seen MANY variations of these "dealer add on" cards/sheets over the years.
Below is a great example of a dealer added warranty supplement. This one even has the dealers name on it. It's very typical of the card/sheet included by many dealers. it was stapled to the cover of the warranty book.
Some judges look for these items thinking they are part of the original factory supplied documents. They're not.Last edited by Michael H.; February 23, 2010, 05:47 PM.- Top
