Did anyone see the ad that Richard Fortier placed in the Nov.-Dec. Driveline. On page 38 he has a ad for the mold plates used to manufacture the elusive AC A212C air filter element. Someone is going to save alot of people the trouble of locating the first design of this element.

Re: AC A212C element ad
Craig what I got from the ad was the element itself. Richard refers to molds so I assume AC A212C is embossed instead of silk screening. I just hope they get the wire mesh correct (square mesh on a 45 degree angle).- Top

Re: AC A212C element ad
What I get out of this ad , is that he has the molds only , not any elements.
What we need now , is for someone like yourself to step up, buy the molds , get the wire mesh correct, and the paper inside correct , then produce and sell them at a reasonable price !
I place my order for 1 now.

Re: AC A212C element ad
Nick you are absolutely correct. Having a original would make my years. I have alot of versions of the AC A212C but not the first design. This part is probably the hardest to find during all my restorations. Nick do you know why GM went from embossing to silk screening?- Top

Yes, having the molds represents only PART of what's needed to reproduce these air cleaner elements. In the ad, Dick Fortier states that he would help with finding a manufacturer (i.e. to use the molds and actually manufacture the air filters). That's another PART of what's needed.
I see the big problem is finding a source for the original type wire screen. I doubt that's manufactured anymore and finding someone to make it in the very limited quantities required will be difficult.
In fact, if there were not a great many other "challenges" involved in reproducing these elements, I expect that Dick Fortier would be doing it himself rather than selling the molds. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
