The ONLY way to go! However, are the plastisol ends now orange?

      Hi Joe

No the ends were black but everything else reminded me of a Fram filter...AC-Delco outsources most everything now from what I hear.

Definitely. Virtually all AC Delco parts are manufactured by non-GM entities. About the only exceptions are some powertrain parts that GM still manufactures internally and sells through the ACDelco parts channel (for the most part, though, powertrain parts manufactured by GM are not available through the ACDelco parts channel, only the GM parts channel).

I suspect what may have occurred with the air filters is that, if they otherwise look like Fram filters, Fram has a contract with GM to produce the ACDelco filters to certain specifications. The "core" filter is likely all Fram, but the "marketing elements" (like the color of the plastisol ends) are specified to be black. In fact, if Fram were manufacturing them, they would probably insist that the plastisol was some color other than orange which has become kind of a Fram "trademark". And, ACDelco certainly wouldn't want customers to get the idea that the AC Delco filters were actually Fram which the orange ends would be practically a "dead-giveaway".

This is all why I was curious if the ends were orange, because, if they were, someone at AC Delco must have been pretty much "asleep at the wheel".

I don't know exactly when the change occurred but I think it was around 1969 or 1970.
Joe, thank you for your reply.
