Terry,

at second glance it is hard to tell the color of the glass. Is it black or grey. Original 67's are black some NOS over the counter (I mean 25-30 years ago) are grey with a green tinit.
Any way it is and original hood just can't tell from the pics if it is a production line hood or an over the counter hood. Also the edge of the hood on factory hoods are filled in solid and over the counter hoods usually aren't filled with glue from the inner skin to the outer.

The hood was put on a 66 in the mid-seventies. The underside is gray and not black fiberglass. Is this a service replacement hood? If so, is it worthwhile to place this hood on an original car that has all its original fiberglass?

I would put that on a 99+ point car for sure. I would do 2 things first. Fill the seem between the inner support and outer skin. Second clean some of the excess glue on the underside of the hood. Once the hood is painted and blacked out you will not be able to tell. Also very important don't sand the underside of the hood, strip any remaining paint with lacquer thinner and red scotch brite pads. It has great hair texture under there and you want to keep that.

The rivets and the color would indicate an over the counter hood.

I dont see why it would matter much. Its real, just made at a different time.

There weren't any holes drilled for the 427 emblems.

lack of 427 emblem holes also favors it being a service replacement. i wouldn't hesitate to use it on a car to be judged ncrs.mike

The consensus so far among NCRS members indicates it is an original GM service replacement hood. Any more thoughts from anyone regarding the originality of this hood? Your feedback is appreciated.
