    67 BB Side Pipes

    Hi Everyone

I'm kinda new to this but heard alot of good things.
You maybe getting a few questions in the next couple of days. I apologize.

I have a 67 BB 390hp with side pipes. I know they were installed around 1969 but unsure if they are original. Is there a part number I can look for. If so where do I look and what are the part numbers.

Also, are they suppose to be be really loud or are they just worn out.

Without doing my homework, I purchased new Aluminum pipes from Corvette Central but now I think I made a mistake after reading some of the communication from others as they are louder than the originals

    Thanks

If you are asking if correct looking sidepipes available in 1969 are genuine GM I'd say yes. I don't believe anyone would be repoping back then when they were available from GM.

Brand new GM sidepipes are noisy(loud). Think about it; they are a straight thru pipe with some packing/bumps etc that exit right next to your seat.... Remember "glass paks"? Older worn out sideipes are just a little louder.......they'll never be as quiet as the new cars of today, they weren't meant to be.

    Enjoy your 67!

      Jim:

Yes, GM sidepipes should have a part number. It should be roll stamped into the forward header pipe section that is between the exhaust manifold and the chambered muffler section. You may also see a "W" stamped there which stands for Walker (Muffler).

The stampings are probably not real pronounced (especially after 35+ years). I located mine by jacking up the front of the car and laying on the ground looking up using a flashlight and small mirror. They were close to where the exhaust header pipe curves into the chambered section.

Part numbers should be #3872969 (LH) and #3872970 (RH) for the big block.

Paid $583 Canadian (about $520 US back in March 2001) for a set of BB pipes. Never even noticed the roll stamping until this thread .

Chromed tip is protected with factory Saran Wrap .
