Hopefully, the car is a total loss and his insurance company will refuse to pay.

Tom, how do you feel about texting while driving?????

My cell phone contract is up for renewal and I told Verizon I just want a TELEPHONE...
No way, you get free texting, camera, apps, gps and all the other stuff I don't want. The way the cell phones are designed every time I pick mine up I hit a button which totally sends the phone into a different mode.
      They make me crazy....

There was a article in the sports section of last Sunday's New York Times about the Bugatti. The writer spent a good bit of his space writing about the inability of an ordinary but rich owner to use 1000 horsepower.
He then talks about the various cars he could assemble in his garage for just part of the Bugatti's cost. He includes a fuel injected Corvette.
We might be on to something good!
          Regards,

Good thing too...it would probably cost a half mill and a couple of high dollar French techs to fix that engine if it hydrolocked.

PS: Those that have been to Galveston know that it's an island reached by a slightly elevated and narrow causeway. If you lose control at any point along that stretch of several miles, you won't end up in a pasture trading stares with Bossie...there's water on both sides.
He probably wanted to keep the air conditioning on until he got "rescued". I doubt if he is familiar with the term "hydraulic lockup."

If a car gets flooded much above the doorsills, especially salt water, it's usually a total loss.

It would be interesting to learn the ultimate fate of this car, but we probably never will.

I probably told this story before, but a high school buddy of mine (circa '63/'64) was always frustrated by the fact that his father only bought cheap cars - six cylinder engines, three-on-the-tree, two-door post sedans. I'm not even sure if they had radios. Most everyone had access to their parent's V-8 four-barrel leviathons.

So, frustrated by the fact that he can't "get rubber" with these low powered cars and wanting to impress his GF, he backs down a boat launching ramp near Golden Gardens (Seattle). When he dumps the clutch the wheels spin and the 1960 Ford slides backwards - into Puget Sound - up to the beltline. The car was recovered and ran again, but it smelled like dead fish, and there was rust EVERYWHERE! I think within 30 days it went to a junkyard.

BTW, his name was Chuck, too.

He should have bought the "Water Car". The local Houston Chron. had a different take on what happened. Said he dropped his phone and after leaning over to pick it up is when he saw the pelican and got startled. They said it was already considered a total loss. And get this, he only bought it a week ago.
PS: Texas just this year banned cell phone use "in school zones".

I am with tom parsons...should ban cellphones in us while driving probably no big deal, irritant for owner only if you can afford a car like that. maybe embarrassed by stupidity but he can surely buy another

Probably of little consequence to him.
With the first service costing $25K
Tires being $23K, ($11k parts and Labor another $12K) every 2500 miles.
Wheels needing replacement every 7500 miles at $30K
Money should not be an issue if you own one of these.
Probably a $75K service bill should fix him right up.

or a $175K service bill, what's the difference???
And we thought $400 for those Tri Power air cleaner bolts was pricey...
