    1959 Soft top deck lid.

I have, what I thought, are two original soft top deck lids. I was taking the paint off of them and I noticed that the attachment areas, where the male half of the locking mechanism is (the area that goes down between the seat and above the center glove box) are different. One has a large hole in it, with a smaller hole for a screw. The other is completely untouched, no large hole or screw hole and no repair whatever.

Were the deck lids different for different years?
    Pis attached.

The original lid for car '59 2528 has the big hole.

      Bill:

Don't quite understand your answer. Are you indicating that from car (1959) #2528 onward they had the large hole? How was the bracket attached on the lids without the smaller screw hole?
      Thanks
      Steve

LH lid is a 56/57 while it will fit a 58-60 it takes the hook style latch, the RH lid is the 58-60 which uses the male female type latch

              Steve -

              Here's a '57 lid - matches your LH photo.

Thanks John. I checked around, apparently the male half of the latch for the 57 is reproduced but the female half isn't. I may just convert the 57 deck lid to a 59.

Try Grossmueller's, MaryJo Rohner, and others specializing in used parts. '57 covers are getting hard to obtain.

Re: 1959 Soft top deck lid.

Thanks again for the advice. Apparently, there is some interest in this lid as a 57. I may keep it as is. It's not in that good a condition, however. It appears that someone stepped on or something fell on, the driver side soft top clamp area. There is circular crazing in the fiber glass around the clamp hole and the underneath rear rail by the driver side hinge is severely cracked and will need major fiber glass surgery to get it stable again. There is also a small minor crack by the other hinge.

John, looking at the photo of your cars deck lid I am noticing your convertible top tabs jutting out from the deck lid with what looks like metal rods going through the center of the tabs coated with foam padding. Is this what I am seeing? I only have the pads. What am I missing?

Nope, no metal rods or foam - just the slider retainers at the forward end; they're reproductions, and they aren't very "supple".

I'm there with you Stephen!! John, what is your secret for your erect soft top vinyl covers??? Mine do not look that full or stiff, in fact they are really limp. Am I missing something?

Yours are probably original (or better reproductions than I had); originals were quite supple.
