It seems that your stamp pad details were removed during the 'decking' operation, including the original pad surface itself. Most engine shops use a rotary type machine that leaves a tell-tale 'swirl' on the deck surface that looks nothing like a factory type finish. Since you're interested in getting all the details correct, this issue would need to be addressed prior to restamping.

Oh I understand that the broach marks are long gone and that they were replaced by fly cutting swirls but that's fine with me. Actually maybe better, you see by leaving he swirls and not trying to reproduce the broach marks I openly admit that this would be a re stamp and not original. Again my only motivation would be for effect not valuation or even points and do not want to be accused of attempting some sort of flim flam (spelling?). It chaps my hide just a little that 20 years ago I screwed something up and now may just need to live with it. When all is said and done I doubt very seriously I will bother with any of it simply because of all the negative feedback. After all I don't need to prove anything to anyone but myself and I know whats real and what isn't.
      Regards
      Kenny

        Kenny,

I'll tell you something you already know. You can do with your car what you damn well please. If you listen to all the experts (did you ever break that word down?) you won't know what to do.

If you restamp the block with the original numbers from your motor...that is not fraud, flim flam, lieing, cheating, being a dork...or...doing something NCRS or Al Grenning would take exception to. That is simply restoring a block pad and numbers. NCRS does not imply anywhere that restoration blocks are bad in any way. I have heard Al Grenning say restoration motors are judged too harshly.

Some on this board would have you believe if you restamp the original numbers in a restoration motor then you are in some way...wrong or dishonest or blah, blah, blah...Nowhere will you find that NCRS agrees. Anyone that thinks otherwise is voicing their own personal opinion, but, they a re NOT stating the position of NCRS.

You know and I know if a person restamps a motor in any configuration other than its original, well that's a whole new ballgame and we know what that is.

        Enjoy your car...

I agree. Post a pic, Erv, and let's take a look.
