    71 Stamp Pad

I am looking at this march 71 LT1. According to the TIMJG there should be a "C" before the serial number derivative.

This pad does not have the "C", I have attached a photo for your expert opinion.

Is this a re-stamp or the real thing?

I do not have the block casting number or casting date yet to reference.

    Re: 71 Stamp Pad

The broach marks look a little deep/pronounced, but then I'm NOT a stamp pad expert. I can tell you that my '71 SB A/C base motor car DOES have the leading 'C' and it's in roughly the same time frame as what you're looking at being an April 71 build car...

Seeing/verifying the leading 'C' is trick on an A/C equipped car due to the bolt-on component overhang (A/C stuff), but it's there alright.

I have a car close to yours in VIN sequence and it has the letter C as well. The stamping just looks a little too perfect in my opinion.

        Hi Erv,
Here's a picture of my 71 January built 350/270 pad. It does show the C as Jack and Warren mention. The engine hasn't been apart.
        Regards,
        Alan

          Erv,
I own a 71 LT-1 VIN #16798. Car was built on May 11, 1971. Pad stamp is C11S116798 - V0330CGZ. Its a 5 star car so the motor is original to the car. Let me know if I can be of further help.
          Hope that helps.

Dave - my 71 LT-1 engine was built 3rd week of August 70, Vin# 1149-very early 71 car. My eyes are not good but I don't see a C - I can only make out 71S101149- followed by the other numbers and cgz code - does the 71S101149 make any sense?

            Thanks

            Pete

              Pete,
The posted photo starts with a 7 as we can see. I was just reporting what my engine pad has on it.

Take a look at the TIM&JG. The approximate VIN range of the 71S1xxxxx and C11S1xxxxx is called out. Check it out.

What posted photo starts with a 7? I see two photos. One photo starts 11S, and the other photo starts C11S.

                  What am I missing?

Scary Bubba fuel filter - rubber hoses and spring clamps on the pressure side of the pump; hope the owner has a fire extinguisher.

Your not missing anything. I meant 1 and typed 7. Sorry. The point of the responses is look at the Judging Guide for the answer.

I called the person which had the car for sale and notified him I was no longer interested in the car. He seemed very honest and embarrased as he truly believed he had a real car.

I use to own a 71 LT-1, 15803. Real close to this car. Mine had the C. The engine info was V0401.
